I found this while looking for some Le Mans video
Thanks for the Video, It has some great racing footage from the cars. Unfortunately I do not speak german, If i’m not wrong Bernd talks about an incident with one of his wheels, when it fall of the car and he had to reach to pits on 3 wheels.
Do you know of any good sources to order quality reproduction photos of the type you feature on the blog? I'm very interested in having a collection of these framed for my living room, and I have nor found a good douce as of yet. Thanks in advance.
Well you could try http://www.motorgraphs.com/ they have a great collection of motorsport images from all eras, although I’ve never bought anything to them.
Maybe If you ask in some Audi dealership they could sell some of them as most of the Auto union photos belog to their archives.
Yesterday I went to a new Audi dealership in Barcelona, on their walls they had lots of photos hanging on their walls, some of auto unions, and some of the new cars. Shame I did not take a picture, I’ve never seen such a big picture of Rosemeyer at the Nurburgring….=)
Just found the blog and love it, I'm a big fan of the silver arrows.
I took the video below of a Mercedes W154 warming up at the Limerock Vintage Festival in 2009. Other people in the crowd had their fingers in their ears as the car started, and I thought to myself "Pansies!", but once the mechanic cracked the throttle a couple of times I actually winced from the volume and followed suit. Fortunately I have this video to listen to at slightly lower levels :)
As you probably know, the W154 like many race cars of the era had a separate set of plugs for starting and warming, then race plugs had to be swapped into the hot engine before it went on track. Seems like a particularly cruel process to impose on the mechanics!
You've got some great finds already, keep up the good work!
